 ACCU
I am a member of the ACCU Formerly Association of C and C++ users but noiw it covers c, c++, EC++, C#, UML Java, Python, perl etc and takes an active role in standards. It as members on C, C++, EC++, C#, POSIX and other ISO standards panels and hosts the email reflctors for others incuding the ADA and Frotran standards bodies. An international, non profit making group that , as it's advertising says is "by programmers for programmers". ACCU has many internationally recognised people as members. The ACCU has a web site www.ACCU.org that contains a lot of useful information.
Part of the ACCU web site is the book reviews section. The reviews of around two thousand current books. These reviews are written by working SW Engineers who "tell it like it is". If a book is awful that is what the review will say. I have a few of my reviews there as well. There is also a page on Embedded books.
